Callis Scholarships Awarded to Cobb Seniors
The 2017 Henry Arthur Callis Education Foundation Scholarship Award recipients are:
- Joshaua R. Bussey, graduate of Pebblebrook High School, will major in Theatre at Howard University. He is the son of Princess and Nic Starr.
- Derek K. Goshay, graduate of Lassiter High School, will enroll at Yale University to study Biology. He is the son of Kay and Derek Goshay.
- Evan M. Joseph, graduate of Lassiter High School, will attend LSU to study Petroleum Engineering. His parents are Bridgette and Stan Joseph.
- LaShawn K. Roach, graduate of Pebblebrook High School will attend Columbus State University as a Theatre major. He is the son of Gretamaria Peeples.
- Austin A. Scott, graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School, will attend Marquette University to study Mechanical Engineering. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Scott.
- Kai P. Shearer, Marietta High School, attending Tennessee State University to study Marketing Management. His parents are Karen and Phil Shearer.
- Jaydon Taylor, graduate of Marietta High School and will be attending Mercer University to major in Pharmacy. He is the son of Dr. Gregory and Shellie Taylor of Marietta.

2017-2018 Application Period now Closed
The application period for the Callis Foundation “100 Alphas for Scholarship” program for 2017-2018 is now closed. All applicants will be informed of their status by June 1st.
Applications for the 2018 – 2019 academic year scholarships will be accepted beginning March 1, 2018.

The True Alpha Derby Experience
Alpha chapters from across Metro-Atlanta have collaborated to produce an unique, first-class experience around the Kentucky Derby. If you’re not in Louisville for the Derby, THIS is the place to be seen!
- Friday, May 5th, Kick-off Social at the Westin Hotel, Buckhead
- Saturday, May 6th, Alpha Derby Day at the Buckhead City Club
- Sunday, May 7th, Alpha Jazz Brunch at the Westin Hotel
Proceeds from the Alpha Derby Weekend will benefit eight (8) Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Foundations working to improve educational opportunities for Atlanta area youth, including Cobb County’s Henry Arthur Callis Foundation.

The Institute is for High School students who have demonstrated academic promise and leadership potential. Registration deadline is May 31, 2017.
