DR. HENRY ARTHUR CALLIS
The Foundation is named in honor of Dr. Henry Arthur Callis (January 14, 1887 – November 12, 1974) one of the seven founders, known as The Jewels, of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity established at Cornell University in 1906. Often regarded as the “philosopher of the founders” and a moving force in the Fraternity’s development, Callis co-authored the fraternity name with Eugene Jones and became the only Jewel to become General President of the Fraternity.
Callis was born in Rochester, New York and attended Cornell University and Rush Medical College. He became a physician and worked as a medical consultant at the Veterans’ Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was Professor of Medicine at Howard University and a prolific contributor to medical journals.
Callis died in 1974 at age 87 in Washington, D.C. His death was a milestone for the Fraternity as Callis became the last founding Jewel to enter the Omega Chapter of deceased Fraternity members. Upon his death The Callis Papers were donated to Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center.

About the Foundation
Henry Arthur Callis was an esteemed founder whose passion was serving as an educator specializing in the field of medicine. The Henry Arthur Callis Education Foundation was established in1986 to support educational initiatives focused on youth in the Marietta/Cobb County area. One of these initiatives is to recognize and reward young men graduating from Cobb area High Schools who exhibit scholastic excellence, good character, and give back to their community in the form of service.
Over the years the Foundation has distributed thousands of dollars to deserving students seeking to further their education. It is our pleasure to continue our commitment of supporting our young people in this effort.

Mark O’Riley manages IBM’s global advanced computing technology public policy. This includes policy development with IBM’s Research, Software and Systems groups. IBM Regulatory and Government Affairs office is a globally integrated corporate function providing worldwide public policy and government relations expertise. Execution supports IBM’s growth and business operations. Mr. O’Riley also works with governments on key economic, governmental, and societal issues; helping them solve problems and create strategies for the future.
Mr. O’Riley has held a number of management and positions since joining IBM in 1984. He has experience in the Public Sector market place including, federal, state and local government, healthcare, and education. Mr. O’Riley has served as Vice President for United States Healthcare Sales; Public Sector Sales, and Worldwide Director of Sales for IBM’s Unix platform.
Mr. O’Riley is a member of the Texas State Bar and the American Bar Association. His professional work experiences also include staff positions with former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson and former United States Representative Parren Mithcell. Mr. O’Riley earned a B.A. degree from C.W. Post College of Long Island University as well as M.P.A. in Public Finance from Atlanta University and Juris Doctor from George Washington University.
DENNIS L. TAYLOR – TREASURER
After graduating from Fisk University with a B.A. in Economics, Dennis began his professional career at the Procter and Gamble Company. After a five year stint at P&G, Dennis moved into the IT industry with two startup firms before joining and spending 20 years at Compaq Computer Corporation/ Hewlett Packard Company in a variety of management roles.
Taylor is currently the Director of Partner Alliances for Corus360 an, IT and consulting firm in Norcross,GA. In addition to his undergraduate degree, Dennis has a MBA from Brenau University and is a Doctoral candidate in Business at the University of Phoenix. Dennis has held leadership positions with Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate chapters in Cincinnati, OH and Stamford, CT
RODNEY H. ADAMS
Rodney Adams is founder and CEO of R. H. Adams & Associates, a business management consultancy that delivers strategic planning, marketing and business development services for small businesses and nonprofits. Adams brings to the Callis Foundation over 30 years of business experience with IBM, Monster.com, Allied Digital Services and others, along with a passion for education and community service. Adams is Executive Director of the William H. Adams Youth Foundation located in Columbus, Ohio.
As leader of an IBM consulting practice, Rodney collaborated with education executives and state officials to develop technology vision, strategy and implementation plans for schools across North America. His current business clients include school curriculum publishers, community service organizations and firms that serve the education market. Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University.
WILLIAM “BILL” CHEEKS
William “Bill”” Cheeks is the president of ABBA Associates, was Vice President of Consumer Education for Equifax Inc., one of largest Data Management Companies in the world, from 1995 to 2001. He was responsible for implementing a fiscal management and life skills program for high school students. In this role, he had a successful national program and also was a presenter to educators and adults on Fiscal Management, Credit Scoring and Identity Theft. He appeared on numerous radio and television programs discussing these topics and this program. He started with the firm in 1967, retiring at the end of 2001.
THEO ELZIE, DDS
Theodis Elzie, DDS practiced dentistry for more than 35 years. He served 22 years with the United States Navy and upon separation from the Navy entered private practice in Smyrna, Georgia.
Dr. Elzie received an undergraduate degree from Alabama A and M University and completed the Doctor of Dental Science Degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
As a Navy Dentist, Dr. Elzie provided comprehensive oral health care to Navy and Marine service members through chair side delivery and head of clinical services and administration. As customary, the Navy required Dr. Elzie’s assignment to various duty stations throughout his career. Upon relocation to each new community, Dr. Elzie became actively involved with citizens and residents of that area. He volunteered with civic organizations to include projects with local schools designed to support and aide children and their families. He conducted health fairs and provided hours of pro bono dental care and education through local health clinics.
Professionally, Dr. Elzie is retired from dentistry. However, he remains active with his real estate investment group. In addition, Dr. Elzie continues to devote time to his university alumni associations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and Huntridge Teen Dental Clinic. He is married with one daughter and one granddaughter.
MAURICE GIBSON – SCHOLARSHIP DIRECTOR

Maurice Gibson, human resources director for AT&T. In this role, he is responsible for provided broad based human resources support to the Global Customer Service organization.
Gibson joined AT&T (formerly BellSouth) in 1993 as manager of human resources. Since that time, he has held human resources generalist positions with increasing responsibility and scope. He was named director of human resources in 1999, and supported various business units (Product Management, Long Distance, Small Business Sales, Marketing, etc.) until Bellsouth was acquired by AT&T. He was named director of ethics 2007, responsible for managing AT&T’s ethics programs to ensure that AT&T and its employees consistently adhere to the highest ethical standards and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration and a Masters in Business Administration from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He has completed advanced human resources programs at Bentley University, the University of Michigan, and Harvard Business School. He has also obtained the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
He is active in several community and professional organizations including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, 100 Black Men, National Employment Law Council, Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, the Society of Human Resources Management, and serves as President of the Walton High School Basketball Tip-Off Club. In 2014 he was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his commitment to serving the community.
CARL L. HAITHCOX, SR – SECRETARY

Carlton L. Haithcox is the Managing Partner & Practice Leader of Advance Team Services, Inc., a consulting/training practice dedicated to supporting individuals and organizations in taking charge of their business. He partners with Professionals, Executives/Corporations, and Entrepreneurs/Small Business Owners to create a compelling vision and build a Business Transformation strategy, which results in a framework for turning that vision into reality, supported with tools & workshops.
Haithcox is a highly effective Sales and Technology Professional with a diverse background in technology sales and support, business transformation consulting and executive management across multiple industries. Known for leadership in managing organizational change, communications and leadership development, Carl has been on the leading edge of technology, working with IBM Research on first-of-a-kind large scale integration solutions in areas such as unified communications, with significant experience in Management and Executive Support Systems. His expertise includes: knowledge management, change management, strategic planning, program and project management, IT operations and management, organizational development and business process re-engineering, combined with a holistic view of contact center infrastructure design and deployment incorporating unified communications and logistics.
Haithcox holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, from the DePaul University in Chicago. He is Lean Six Sigma certified and is a qualified instructor on a variety of management issues, as well, facilitates professional development and diversity workshops in many business imperative areas.
Mr. Ronco Johnson, LUTCF, is a nationally sought after motivational & inspirational speaker and MDRT Top of the Table member that has been published and quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press (AP), Life Selling Magazine and Advisor Today and other publications.
Since 1998, the former Atlanta Jazz radio personality has built a strong professional practice in the field of Insurance and Financial Services for nearly 17 years. Mr. Johnson is globally recognized by the Million Dollar Roundtable (MDRT) for his industry accomplishments as a member of the highly exclusive “Top of the Table” membership which is the highest honor available to life insurance professionals and represents less than the top 1% of life insurance professionals in the insurance industry worldwide.
Mr. Johnson, a native of Marietta, Georgia and Kennesaw State University alumni, serves as President and CEO of L.R. Johnson & Associates, Inc., Founder of the Ronco Johnson Foundation for Financial Literacy and Owner/GM of the Georgia Magic Professional Basketball Team. In 2012, He became the 2nd African American to be named “Four Under Forty” by Advisor Today Magazine.
Upon graduating from Southern Polytechnic State University, now Kennesaw State University- Marietta Campus, with a degree in Architecture, Kevin began to practice architecture throughout the City of Atlanta focusing on Retail, Medical and Hospitality architecture.
Kevin is currently working as a Brand Design Specialist for IHG, a global hospitality company with the US HQ located in Atlanta, Ga. Kevin is currently working to obtain his professional license to become a registered architect in the State of Georgia.
